The Wrap-up #11 - Dopamine, Smart Notes and more
The reason we’re all so miserable may be because we’re working so hard to avoid being miserable.
Hello gang!
How are things?
Before we dive in, a quick question.
What are you struggling with? And how can I help you?
It’ll take less than 30 seconds to answer.
Here are X things I loved this month:
Books 📚
Dopamine Nation by Anna Lembke. Going into this book, I already had an idea about dopamine and why too much of it is horrible for you. This was an interesting read to reinforce the basics of how dopamine works. And how a psychiatrist goes about treating patients with severe addiction to sex, phone, drugs. The message is simple: too much pleasure is making you miserable. If you feel miserable all the time you’re not scrolling through social media, you need to reset your dopamine levels. (you can read more here).
How to Take Smart Notes by Sönke Ahrens. I’ve been taking notes for a long time, but never bothered to read this book. I’m sad it took me years to finally understand what writing your thoughts mean. If you’re struggling to make sense of all the information you’re writing down, I suggest you read this book. You will become better at note-taking and have more clarity in your thinking. This book also comes with many insights you can apply to your life, not just note-taking.
Articles 📰
These Quotes On Life From An Unknown Writer You Don't Know Felt Mind-Bending by Tim Denning. This article is a summary of life lessons that can change your life. But only if you give them a chance. Each quote is a smal reminder to refocus on forgotten areas of your life. When you combine all these quotes, something magical can happen in your life.
Movies 🎥
Leo (Netflix). When I saw this on Netflix, I thought it was going to be just another dumb cheap animation with an OK story that adds nothing to the world. But 10 minutes in, I knew I was wrong. This might be an animation, but don’t be fooled. The script is razor sharp. The characters are well developed. And it’s super funny. But the best part is the life lessons spread out during the 1h30m run time. Watch it. You will enjoy!
TV Shows 📺
Beef (Netflix). 2 strangers get into a traffic fight. They’re both going through stuff in their lives that makes letting go impossible. So… What could go wrong? Before my wife suggested it, I didn’t know anything about this show. So it was a nice surprise when each episode got crazier and crazier. It explores well what people do when they’re desperate and had enough of other people’s crap. Highly recommend this!
A quote for you 💭
“The reason we’re all so miserable may be because we’re working so hard to avoid being miserable.”
